Coincidence, or design that we go to the Omaha range on the 65th anniversary of the invasion of Normandy? The shoot was fucking crazy! It wasn't difficult and I didn't have any problems negotiating it, but the whole concept of live fire buddy-team movement is crazy to me/I'm definitely not used to it yet. We'll see how the Andrew Jackson range goes, it'll be a five-person live fire movement drill... the practice went okay but I must repeat, live fire is crazy!
A few of the privates who had behaved all cycle got to go to a minor-league baseball game in the afternoon after Omaha, it was pretty nice being able to leave Ft. Jackson and go into the city! However, what I saw of the city wasn't much to write about... the nicest part was Williams-Brice Stadium (where the USC Gamecocks play football) and the rest was a dump. In general though, I think we've been pretty lucky this cycle, I know everyone on the bus, including DS Burt, watched as we passed a platoon getting smoked in the sandpit. They were doing low crawls in PTs and running laps around a track after they finished crawling, we haven't had to do that yet this cycle and I hope we never have to!
We watched the Columbia Blowfish play some other team that I've forgotten, something Hi-Tops. There was a random country singer named Eric Horner who only performed patriotic ballards, and he didn't even have musical instruments, just prerecorded music. It was still mildly entertaining, looks like this is his website: http://victoryconcerts.com/
The best part of the whole damn spectacle: eating normal food again! I spent $18 on food the afternoon and evening, and was still hungry at the end of the night, though it was to be expected since 3000 soldiers had been shipped to the game and that's not even counting the civilian attendees, haha. The fireworks show at the end of the game was pretty neat, then we got whisked away to the buses which actually went relatively quickly for the privates from our company, it was mass chaos for everyone else. Had a shakedown when we got back to ensure we didn't bring any goodies back, and that was Saturday for ya!
